DAY 2 Segesta to Scopello Transfer from Palermo to the remains of the ancient city of Segesta. Our first ride takes us from this location to the village of Scopello, which perches on a ridge high above the coastline. It is one of the most picturesque places in the province of Trapani and is well known for its old tuna fish station that during 1500 was one of the most productive in Sicily. For a taste of local village life we spend the next 2 nights in 4 star hotel in Scopello.
DAY 3 Hiking Zingaro Nature Reserve Today we visit Zingaro Nature Reserve, the first nature reserve to have been established in Sicily and only 2 km from Scopello. Situated on the coastline between Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo and backed by steep mountains it is a beautiful unspoiled area that can only be explored by foot. The areas vast network of pathways leads to a number of pristine, isolated cove beaches.
DAY 4 Scopello to Erice From Scopello we ride to Erice. Located almost 800m above sea level, this walled mountain town is medieval in appearance and atmosphere but its origins date back to ancient times where it was an important religious centre for the Elimi, a population that lived in Western Sicily before the Greek colonization. We stay here for the evening in a charming accommodation of deluxe rating.
DAY 5 Erice to Marsala The itinerary takes us by cycle from Erice to Marsala - home of the famous sweet wine that has been in production here since the 18thcentury. Our route takes us via the Marsala Salt Mining Reserve and the tiny Island of Mozia. Upon arrival we are treated to magnificent views of the salt mine and wind mills.
DAY 6 Marsala to Selinunte Leaving the flat vineyards around Marsala we pedal inland towards a softly undulating series of hills, and then towards the sea again, passing by the Cave di Cusa Archaeological sites - quarries where the stone for the building of Selinus was extracted in the fifth century BC - to the Selinunte.
DAY 7 Selinunte to Montevago/ Transfer to Palermo - End of Trip Our final ride takes us inland to a spa situated near the location of Palace of Tomasi di Lampedusa - from the famous Italian historical novel 'The Leopard' - written by Sicilian prince Giuseppe di Lampedusa.
