Comfortably sleeping two people, with additional provision for an extra two, this welcoming apartment is located on the second floor of a typical Ligurian house in the historic heart of La Serra, a picturesque old fishing village. Thanks to its privileged hillside setting, surrounded by olive groves, the village commands spectacular views out across the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Poets, as far as the opposite headland, where Portovenere stands, with its neighbouring island of Palmaria across the narrow strait and Tino and Tinetto on the far side.

Extending over a total of 60 square metres, the cosy apartment has recently been meticulously renovated and refurbished throughout, with an eye for elegant comfort and simplicity.

ACCOMMODATION

A bright, spacious, fully equipped, modern kitchen, with white-washed walls and ceiling. The colour-scheme of its tiled floor perfectly harmonises with the beechwood and light-oak shades of the fitted units extending across one side-wall, as well as with the dining table and seating. Integrated into the far end of this room, beneath large windows, is a pleasant sitting area, with bookshelves, armchairs and a twin-seater sofa.

Proceeding along a small hallway, you access the main, light-filled living room, with its central, marble fireplace plus fine wooden mantelshelf; TV; hi-fi unit; and two sofas, one of which converts into a comfortable double bed.

Adjoining this dayroom is a big double bedroom, whose romantic atmosphere is enhanced by the simple beauty of its matching wrought-iron bedstead and bedside-tables, combined with the delicate, white net canopy surmounting the bedhead. Here too the pretty pastel tones of the co-ordinated soft furnishings are stylishly highlighted against plain whitewashed walls and ceiling.

Continuing halfway down the hallway, you reach a modern, tiled, fitted bathroom with shower.

Please note that owing to this apartment's unique central location, its windows open on to the village itself, rather than on to a balcony or terrace. However, one of the kitchen windows affords a superb view over small inlets and hilly, wooded headlands in the near distance, sweeping right round the bay towards La Spezia with its mountainous backdrop in the further distance. This breathtaking seascape scenery can likewise be enjoyed from the benches on the peaceful village square, situated just in front of the house itself.

EXTRAS

The following are all at the guests' disposal: a mobile phone; bed linen; beach towels; breakfast provided on the first morning of your stay, so that you don't have to rush out to stock up on groceries immediately on arrival!

It is important to the property-owners that you should find your visit to this stunning area relaxing and enjoyable and they will be pleased to do everything they can to help make you feel at home here.

LOCATION

This property is ideally suited to holidaymakers seeking a combination of sun, sea and boat-trips, as also to those wishing to explore the wealth of scenic, historic and artistic treasures waiting to be discovered in both the Ligurian and Tuscan hinterland.

The UNESCO World Heritage Cinque Terre fishing villages and nature reserve are within easy reach of this strategic base, as are the coastal resorts of historic Portovenere and sophisticated Portofino.

Further inland, the splendid Tuscan cities of Pisa (40 mins), Lucca (45 mins) and Florence (1 hr 45 mins) all make convenient day-trip destinations by car.

The Apuan Alps mountain-range, home to the famous Carrara quarries which sourced all Michelangelo's extraordinary white marble, are only 20 kms away, as too are the impressive medieval castles of Lunigiana.

For sun-worshippers and watersports enthusiasts, many unspoilt sandy beaches are readily accessible from Casa nel Borgo, only a few kilometres away.

Please Note:

This lovely, carefully restored and neatly-kept village, with its narrow, terracotta-paved alleyways, steep stone stairways, stone and brickwork arches, yellow or pink washed houses with green shutters and red-tiled roofs and its exquisite old church with a graceful, domed bell-tower, is an absolutely authentic, typically Ligurian medieval settlement. As such, access to its individual residences is simply not possible by 21st century motorised vehicles! The centre is consequently a traffic-free zone and cars must be left in one of the village carparks. The nearest to Casa nel Borgo is 50 metres (approx 150 feet) away, approached on foot via a gently sloping alleyway or via about 20 steepish steps. Occasionally this carpark may be full, necessitating a slightly longer walk.

Guests should, however, at all times bear in mind that, considering the almost always gorgeous weather and the utterly magical, traffic-free surroundings here, a bit of a stroll from the car can only add to your overall holiday experience, to mention nothing of allowing you to indulge in that extra helping of delicious pasta at dinner, with a completely clear conscience!
